An Ekphrastic Event - April 3

Updated: Nov 12, 2022

An ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or a work of art. This painting "Remember Me" (by Artist Aurore Dinwoodie), inspired the following.

It's on display at a cool new Dover, NH gallery Aplomb. It's part of the show "The Eyes Have It" that's worth checking out. Thanks to Aurore for her permission.

Adult eyes on a young child.

The weight of chronic worry, eternal fatigue and betrayal

collapse and crush boyish oculi.

Although tired and worn,

he protects his tiny sister

from the harmful rays

of self-loathing in different forms—narcissism, rage, and irritation.

He feeds her love and strength,

She triumphs over pain and neglect.
