Adult eyes on a young child.
The weight of chronic worry, eternal fatigue and betrayal
collapse and crush boyish oculi.
Although tired and worn,
he protects his tiny sister
from the harmful rays
of self-loathing in different forms—narcissism, rage, and irritation.
He feeds her love and strength,
She triumphs over pain and neglect.
